My twin sister, Sarah, and I grew up in the mountains. They are in our blood. Part of our souls. Their towering peaks and crystalline lakes and rivers; their pristine forests and endless wooded trails. These mountains provided endless inspiration and are the only rivals to the unparalleled natural beauty of Marin County. My family and I decided to move back to the mountains from Marin in 2018. Full time. We moved to Truckee and we haven’t looked back.
Here are my particularly favorite beautiful and magical things of the Truckee – Tahoe mountains.
The trails: I run for physical and spiritual oxygen. The trails are steep here in Truckee, but they are always filled with smiles and gratitude and they rarely disappoint in the spectacular vistas. My current favorite is the Donner Rim Trail. Start early and watch the sun splash across Donner Lake.
The tree museums. I swoon for the trees at all times of the year, but especially when they crystalize into various poses of white wonder in the wintertime.
The lakes: They are everywhere. Their clear and crystalline depths are magical. I baptize myself in them at least once a month. Wim Hof style.
And of course the crystals: If you followed us long enough you know we’re in love with all things crystalline. This place abounds with natural crystals. I know where to find them.
